Medical marijuana legalization in Florida is finally on it\’s way.
Just last week senator Jeff Clemens officially introduced the Senate Bill 1250 or the Cathy Jordan Medical Cannabis Act to the Health Policy Committee of the state. The bill would establish a state-regulated system of dispensaries, provide patients with legal and safe access to medicinal cannabis and allow patients to possess up to four ounces of dried cannabis and grow up to eight plants (it is still not clear adult plants or just in general). It was named after Cathy Jordan, a famous marijuana activist from Florida, who used cannabis to treat her amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, but eventually got suspected for possession and got her house raided by the cops.
Florida is one of the states that’s not very actively participating in the US medical marijuana legalization. Senate Bill 1250 is not the first one that was introduced in this Southern State, just last year another bill was struck down in both committees. A recent poll showed that only 24% of the 600 registered voters opposed the legalization of medical cannabis and nearly 70% supported the new marijuana bill.
